I have previously purchased books and sold them back at the local college book store. I have never had a problem other than the price you pay and what you get back when selling the book back. There has never been a problem with the condition of the book when selling them back as they have always been well taken care of. This past semester, I decided to try Amazon textbook rental as this appeared to be a better deal. I was very wrong. Out of three books received, one was new and two were used. At the end of the semester, I sent the three books back. Ironically enough, I received a notification on the two used books that they were rejected for return and that I would be charged the "buyout" price which is roughly twice the price of purchasing the book brand new. This is in addition to what I paid in the rental fee for each book. My guess is that either they have too many of this particular book or a newer version is now being used. I will not be using this service again.

RE: KINDLE VERSION: OK, I just got this and it's such a big deal for students ... yes, you can ZOOM (by just enlarging the page) and that is a Big deal. Some don't allow zooming, which like in the case of a human body atlas book I sampled, makes it them useless. So, on that alone I'm happy. Saved a crapload doing Kindle v hard copy too. I can still hilite & add bookmarks as well. Content looks good but haven't gotten too far into it yet.
