I found his insight into how and why women react to violence very interesting, and eye opening! He uses real examples of people being attacked and why their reactions were successful or not. He covers to great lengths how women are told not to fight back, to go along with their attacker so they won’t be injured. I remember being told that in college, fighting might get you injured. Apparently, the campus powers that be did not think rape was injurious. I’m sure that stance contributed to the rampant rapes that were occurring at that time! I can only wonder how fewer rapes there would have been if some of the rapists had their knees shattered and their eyes gouged out as the author suggests. Women are easy prey, weaker, usually preoccupied while out and about. What he advocates is something anyone, weak, young, or old, can do to an attacker. The idea is to be the aggressor, match viciousness for viciousness. If you are attacked, go on the offensive! Do whatever it takes to be able to walk away and survive! The ideas is also to avoid situations that put you in danger. Know the difference between someone being obnoxious and throwing a lot of bravado and one who means to do you actual violent harm. The author takes great care in defining the difference. If you are going to use deadly force, or seriously maim someone, you better be sure that you felt your very life was in danger!
What I felt was lacking in the book was explicit instructions on what to target on an attacker to stop the onslaught. He mentions 70 vulnerabilities, but a chart showing them would be very helpful!
I pray I never have to defend myself. I try to be very aware of my environment. I keep an eye out around me and around my vehicle. I made up my mind years ago that I would not just go along with an attacker.
