If you're on a budget and don't have $285 for the Helm shop manual, this techbook just published in 2013 might just answer some questions that a first time diesel owner like myself might like answered without paying an arm and a leg. On special for less than $18, if this book helps me make one repair, it will pay for itself. BASED on a FIRST GEN. LB7 it seems to cover the differences between the models through 2012 pretty well as the DURAMAX seems to go through a transition (for the better) every year or so. The book does have some captions for things on LLY and up model years. I didn't know this book even existed till I saw on amazon. You won't find at the partstore (@ time of the review-10/2013)

The credibility of this publication went way down when a crucial step was left out of the fuel filter change out process. In no place in the instructions did it show that you had to bleed the air out by opening the bleed screw shown clearly in the pictures. I can only wonder how many other steps are missing in descriptions of other repairs that I'm not accustomed to. There is very little mention of difficult processes and hints to tackle them. For instance, removing the fan shroud on later model vehicles is a huge pain in the neck but only very short mention is made and in such a way as to suggest simplicity.
Save your money and do some research of your own. There are many forums, websites, and youtube videos that you can learn from. The only thing good about this book is that it shows torque values at the front of each chapter.
